Attention Bonnie and Debbie...

I am curious to know if you recommend buying all the books for N4 and N5 that are recommended? Did you use them? Where they helpful?

Also, I was curious if y'all had those study notes thingys you said you might get together. (I'll take all the help I can get!! Ü)

Thanks for all you two do!

The Assessment book was not too helpful. You can probably borrow it for the brief time that you might want to look through it.

The pathophys book is short, sweet and to the point. It is useful to read before lectures and for help with tests.
The medsurg book is good for the pictures, charts, graphs and practice tests.

The evolve website is an excellent resource.

The medsurg study guide is good for the practice questions. Tear out each section and staple them together with the answers for each subject for your tests.

The big yellow box of Mosby's study cards are good for practice questions.

The test bank is full of practice questions to help you study for each test. Don't try to read all of the required reading first before practicing tests, or you will never get to the tests. This might cause you to have a hard time on the exams. Learn your material alongside of the practice tests. You will understand more and not forget as much because the info that you read will make sense when you see the importance of why and how the questions are being asked.

Practice the tests outloud with your study partners to discuss rationale. You will be amazed at the difference between your perspective and your friend's which will cause you to learn even more.

I bought and never opened the IV book. It was all in my PDA drug books.

DO take your class syllabus to the first day of class. They will go through the whole thing.

I really liked N4. The key is confidence and assertiveness. If you have difficulty with these, ASK FOR HELP NOW, especially if your second language is English. I have some help and advice for you if you are interested.

As for buying all of the books, I always do but many others do not, so it is up to you. We never cracked open the critical thinking book. It was not used.

Bonnie,

Hey you! I know you got your own life, and your own nursing 7 (OH MY GOD N7..YOU are almost done!!), but how do you feel about having a meeting to go over helpful things with us, maybe you, Kristine K and Deb?

I am game for Friday...will you be on campus?

Please let us know!!!

Thanks!

Christine, I know I am going to be there Friday and would love to meet with you. I have lecture from 7am to 10am. After that I am free for the day. Just let me know.

As for books, I agree with what Bonnie said. Use the MedSurg text(Lewis)for the boxes and the pictures, use the study guide for the test questions, some notes are on our blog, use the Pathophys book a lot! If someone feels they really need to see the assessment book, I have one they can use, it is utouched. Just contact me. I am working on revamping the N4 disk (like Bonnie said)I will get that to you ASAP. The tests on it are good to go over too. However, be careful because some of what they tell you is a right answer is NOT! If you can get the Mosby's cards do so, if not I would hit Bonnie up for copies of hers! They were a big help. (I got compies from Bonnie and Nikki.)

Remember, Bonnie and I will be there as tutors too. We are more than happy to help you all. Call us or email. My cell# (916)600-7074. I usually answer it unless I don't hear it ring or I am on a call at work. Leave a message and I will call back ASAP. I hope we will have others signing up as tutors too.

You guys will do great! I have faith is all of you.

I will be available after the N7 lecture along with Debbie, so set up whatever kind of get together you want.
I still do not have my act together as I was hoping and planning to do during the break, but I am working on it.

Christine, try to find out when Fernisa will be doing her sessions for N4. Maybe Debbie and I could get a regular study session for N4 going every Monday after your class if it does not clash with the N101 time. Let us know.

Lisa, thank you for your encouragement. As you can see, I read and answer backwards from bottom to top. Sigh...

The prabably required pathophys book is a med sized blue spiral bound paper covered book by
elizabeth Corwin second edition, Lippincott. You can find it in the bookstore or elsewhere too.
ISBN 0-7817-1938-0
I will bring mine to the 1030 study meeting.
