Hi guys,
How did you all feel about todays test???? I'm using the blog to vent out my frustrations. Eventhough I studied my butt off for this test, I thought that it was really hard. So I'm just really depressed. I'm going to start fresh next week and forget about the test I just took.
Ok, I'm starting to feel better :)
See you next week

Fazia, I know that test was very frustrating. It was for us too. We had to vent too.March 3,2005. Vent and let it go.
This was the most challenging test in N1. You are past it now. Remember that these tests are not about what you know and how smart you are. You guys are all really smart. That's probably why it bothers us so much when our test grade does not reflect the effort that we put into studying. These tests are not about what we know as much as what we are going to do with the info. Remember that there is the NCLEX and then there is the real world of nursing. These tests are geared to help us pass the BIG ONE after 4th semester. We just have to learn how to ply the game and put the pieces together. In the mean time, we are learning how to be excellent, safe and critically thinking nurses.
This is just one test and you will see that it will all work out ok with your grade at the end. You justnedd to get that 72% and the other points will raise your grade up.
In the mean time, you have learned a heck of a lot in an incredibly short period of time. You can and will use everything that you studied for, in clinical and in future tests. It all builds on itself. The next time that you cover these subjects in more detail, things will click and make more sense. Keep asking 'why' about everything and practice tests to get the hang of the questions. It will help you in N2 and N4 and beyond.
Here is the optimist's view.
If it wasn't for these humbling test scores now and then, we wouldn't appreciate the good scores as much when we get them. If you are like me and forget what you get right and remember what you get wrong, well... then, the more you miss now, the better your recall will be later!
Most important,don't forget,
YOU ARE NOT YOUR GRADE.THIS TEST DOES NOT REFLECT WHO YOU ARE OR WHAT YOU KNOW.
Thanks Bonnie
Its nice to know that you guys went through what we are going through and got over it. I have scheduled an appointment with lynn swanson so we can go over all my tests so I don't make the same mistakes again.Plus I'm just like you, I don't remember what I got right but Boy...I definitely remember the ones I got wrong.
I wont see you tuesday cos we have the cultural diversity thing.
Talk to you soon

Fazia,
Please dont feel alone...I cried for at least an hour today. As we were leaving, it seemed as though everyone feels the exact same way. Yesterday, it took me 4 hours to get through chapter 13...we met in the library and shared all the pictures and things that we made with each other for at least 2 hours and it felt as though every single thing we studied was not on the test :(. As Bonnie said, it will be alright...lets just put it behind us and realize that we are all in this together, and I am sure that a majority of this class did not do well despite the hours of studying, putting off our families for yet another few days and not doing well..its frustrating, tiring and difficult to admit...keep your head up all of you...we need to keep each other up in all of this. Lets try to be as positive as possible, move on and overcome :)
Thank you Bonnie for the nice words :)
OK Fazia.
When you go over your tests try to analyze why you answered the way you did. Get a handle on your own thought process and how you can steer it in the way you need to go. I just forgive myself and let the unknown knowledge and number questions go. You either know them or you don't. I give myself a little kick for the questions that I read wrong. But I am most interested in the critical thinking questions. If you can get a handle on those, it will take you a long way. You will be able to answer correctly even when you don't know the material that you are being tested on, if you can learn how to break down exactly what is being asked. Sometimes we are too smart for our own good and miss a common sense and easy question because we went too deep. Try to always go back and re-read the question after you have made your choice,to see if you are actually answering the question that was asked.
Christine it is all going to be okay. This is going to make you guys stronger and more determined. You guys ROCK! and you all have great communication among yourselves! I have heard from new grad nurses that the first semester is the most intense for the longest period of time. You will have other tense classes at times, but not for the whole semester.
Keep on blogging, laughing, crying and studying together.
I will be at your graduation in 2007 futurenurses!!!!!
Hi everyone,
Yep, that test is a bummer!! I flunked it resoundingly last semester. And I studied my butt off too. So, look it over, learn why you answered the way you did, and then let it go! It is only one test; do not tie your self-worth up in the tests. You will do good on some, bad on some and mediocre on others. Bonnie is correct, there is nursing school and then there is nursing. You will make it, hang in there. Call me if you want to. Debbie
Shelby Baldwin (2nd semester), asked me to post this for you...
N1 students...I know exactly how you guys feel!!! I have always felt that a good grade on a test was the payoff for all of my hard work. It really bites when you work so hard and what they claim to be the answer to a question is contrary to what has been said, or has little or nothing to do with what you've studied. Bonnie & Debbie are exactly right about having to learn two different sets of information, the one in the book, and the one for clinical. It sucks and there is no way around it. But, the advantage you guys have is that you know that now and you can move on and not fight it for the rest of the semseter like I did. I send my best out to all of you. Cheer up. I know you guys are doing great. One of the best things the nurses at the hospital I work at told me is that... just the fact that you know WHY you chose the answer you chose and think the correct one is wrong shows you are on the right track...'cause you ARE thinking about it critically!!! :)
Take Care!!... (and I love the new Kaiser Permanente phrase, "Live well & Thrive!)
I know everyone feels defeated right now and after reading your comment I don't blame you. This was a hard test. Remember you did your best and studied hard. This test doesn't define you as an individual or your nursing career. Who you are inside does. Use the previous person's advice and look at the test as a learning process. Can you learn from the wrong answers? Could you have guessed differently? You are never going to know everything? Let's try to turn this in to a positive and not bring us down but pick us up to say yes we can always do alittle better.
We are here to help!! If any one needs to talk, even to just vent the door is always open. Remember we have faith in all of you. You are here for a reason and one test does not define who you are as an RN.
